NTT America and Riverbed Deliver Enhanced Managed WAN Performance Acceleration Services
SAN FRANCISCO – NTT America, a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation, and Riverbed Technology (Nasdaq: RVBD), the technology and market leader in wide-area data services (WDS), today announced that NTT America is offering its new Managed WPA (WAN Performance Accelerator) service to regional and global businesses. The new offering is based on Riverbed® award-winning flagship products, Steelhead® appliances, and will provide NTT America’s customers with WAN acceleration that reduces costs and simplifies IT infrastructure.
NTT America’s Managed WPA service provides multi-national and regional businesses with LAN-like access to data and applications for users in branch offices, regardless of their location. The service performance enables cost savings through reductions in both opex and capex, as enterprises are able to optimize their bandwidth usage while consolidating their IT infrastructure and reducing IT complexity and overhead. In addition, the managed service acceleration helps ensure business continuity through improved backup and replication processes, as well as improves staff productivity and real-time collaboration.
“With the globalization of enterprises and distributed resources, regulatory compliance and changes in application trends to web-based protocols, enterprise IT architectures are becoming more complex,” said Stephen Bloom, vice president of Business Development for NTT America, Inc. “Our Managed WPA service provides customers with a one-stop-shop for best-of-breed acceleration that simplifies IT infrastructure, increases productivity and produces real cost savings. We are envisioning further enhancement of the service such as mobile user support solutions to accommodate our growing customer needs.”
As part of its commitment to providing a one-stop-shop, NTT America has built a comprehensive set of services within the Managed WPA service package. NTT America engineers perform needs assessments and create network designs based on the Riverbed solutions; then they provide project management and install and test the Steelhead appliances. Following implementation, NTT America provides full maintenance and support, including 24x7 remote and proactive monitoring and trouble shooting of both WPA and the network.
“NTT America offers customers, including both U.S. companies expanding to Asia-Pacific as well as international firms operating in the U.S market, best-of-breed services and solutions,” said Randy Schirman, vice president, Service Providers at Riverbed. “The addition of Riverbed’s award-winning Steelhead appliances to NTT America’s portfolio provides customers with an acceleration solution that goes beyond mere speed to the core needs of any regional or global business – enhancing productivity, ensuring business continuity and delivering cost savings.”
Riverbed WDS solutions enable organizations of all sizes to overcome a host of severe problems, including poor application response-time and insufficient bandwidth at remote sites. Accelerating the performance of applications between data centers, remote offices and mobile workers by five to 50 times and in some cases up to 100 times, Riverbed Steelhead WDS products allow companies to consolidate IT, improve backup and replication processes to ensure data integrity, and improve staff productivity and collaboration. Steelhead products have been deployed in organizations ranging from global Fortune 500 companies to small companies with a several domestic sites. According to a recent report by IDC, organizations that deploy Steelhead appliances achieve an average return on investment of 7.3 months.
