NTT America Announces LEED Gold Certification For its Ashburn, VA Data Center
New York, N.Y. – NTT America, a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation, today announced that its Ashburn Data Center, located in Northern Virginia, has earned a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
LEED is a green building rating system developed by the USGBC and is a nationally recognized benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. The LEED system awards points for satisfying specified green criteria to address human and environmental health, including: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality and Innovation and Design.
In addition to being LEED Gold certified, the Ashburn Data Center will be SAS 70 Type II certified as of October, 2009, and has infrastructure topology consistent with the Concurrently Maintainable criterion of the Uptime Institute's Tier III classification and performance standard.
The data center offers enterprise customers the flexibility of integrating Managed Services and Colocation Services to meet the specific requirements of their solution. NTT America’s portfolio of Managed Services in the Ashburn facility includes Managed Storage, Managed Security, Managed Back-up, Virtual Hands and Professional Services. The facility also provides an industry-leading SLA, which includes commitments for Network and Power availability as well as Temperature and Humidity ranges that comply with ASHRAE standards.
“We are very proud to announce the LEED Gold Certification of our Ashburn facility,” said Tarif Abboushi, Vice President of Data Center Infrastructure, NTT America. “The certification enables us to provide our customers with access to a state-of-the-art green facility. The certification also demonstrates our commitment to environmental stewardship and represents significant progress against the goals of our Corporate Green Initiative.”
In addition to providing its customers with access to greener data centers, NTT America helps customers meet their own Green IT goals with Carbon Balanced Hosting, a carbon offset program that enables customers to offset the carbon footprint of their IT equipment.
Other steps NTT America has taken as part of its holistic Corporate Green Initiative include the use of energy efficient servers; purchase of carbon offsets to balance the emissions of its own IT equipment; improved and more efficient air flow management in data centers; alternative power supplies; improving recycling company-wide; and subsidizing mass transit and telecommuting.
