NTT America Promotes Dave Ryan to Chief Operating Officer

Ryan To Increase NTT's Presence With U.S. Multinational Corporations While Emphasizing The Company's Commitment To Unprecedented Customer Service Levels

NEW YORK, NY - NTT America, the U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation, the international and long distance service arm of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, the largest telecommunications company in the world, today announced that Dave Ryan, Executive Vice President, has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer. In this role, Ryan will oversee the company's day-to-day operations and lead in strengthening the company's U.S. presence. This promotion comes at a critical time in NTT America's development as it moves to strengthen its presence in the US marketplace in the wake of the changing telecommunications industry.

"With extensive expertise in telecommunications sales and customer service management, Dave is exactly what NTT America requires in this important role. We are delighted to welcome him to this senior management position," said Akihiko Okada, president and chief executive officer of NTT America. "With Dave's leadership, NTT America is ready to move into the next phase of strategic development -- a phase that we anticipate will position NTT America as a major player in providing global telecommunications services within the US marketplace."

At NTT America, Mr. Ryan leads the company's global strategy initiatives in all telecommunication market sectors, including multinational customers, carrier wholesale activity and Internet service providers. He is responsible for extending NTT America's reach throughout the United States and for improving the company's competitiveness in the global telecom marketplace.

Additionally, Mr. Ryan will serve as President of Verio's Global Sales initiative, leading NTT's North American sales and marketing activities of network, IP, and systems integration service suite to multinational corporations. Acquired by NTT Communications in September 2000, Verio is the leading provider of Internet solutions aimed at helping businesses of all sizes grow and compete in the new world of business.

Prior to joining NTT America, Mr. Ryan accrued over 17 years of sales management experience in the field of telecommunications. He began his career with Global One (then Telenet Communications Corp.) in 1983, where he ultimately achieved the position of Vice President, North American Sales in 1998.

"As the telecommunications marketplace continues to change, the need for seamless global communications from a secure and stable carrier has never been as mission-critical as it is today," said Dave Ryan. "With the world's most experienced and trusted telecommunications company behind us, NTT America is well positioned as a strategic partner for U.S. companies with global needs."
