NTT America’s Infrastructure Investments Anticipate Customer Demand
New York, NY – NTT America, a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) and a global IP network services provider, today announced continued progress in the company’s ongoing commitment to making infrastructure investments that support customer requirements for increased bandwidth and that take advantage of the latest advancements in networking technology to prepare companies for current and future business opportunities on an international basis. Building on several corporate initiatives, NTT America’s executives have contributed the company’s practical experience with market leading technologies such as IPv6, as well as insights into the global demand for rich media content and high impact international geographies for business growth, at several key conferences.
As a result of the company’s investments in network infrastructure, the NTT Com Global IP Network reached the milestone of 300 Gigabits per second (Gbps) of available capacity on the transpacific portion of the network.
300 Gbps is one of the highest available capacities of any global Tier-1 network and allows NTT America to serve growing international customer bases and provide a cost-effective solution to meet demand for unprecedented bandwidth, speed and capacity. In addition, NTT America deployed Cisco’s ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router to scale its Global IP Network infrastructure for leading capacity, nonstop video, power efficiency, robust IPv6 support and integrated video monitoring intelligence. NTT America maintained its Global IP Network’s carrier-grade IPv6 capability; the Global IP Network has been running both IPv4 and IPv6 worldwide since 2001. IPv6 presents a major opportunity to businesses that need to stay competitive on a global basis, allowing them to take advantage of new applications in every market from entertainment to disaster response, while ensuring business continuity as IPv4 addresses dwindle. “As we move toward the reality of 100GigE, we continue to look ahead to determine what is on the horizon both for our network and our customers,” said Michael Wheeler, vice president of the Global IP Network for NTT America. “Enabling our network infrastructure to support the highest available capacity with leading edge technology and almost unlimited IP addresses will help prepare our customers for future business opportunities and next generation products and services.”
During the beginning of 2010, company executives spoke on critical global business and technical issues for the development and deployment of the next generation Internet. Highlights include:
· Michael Wheeler, vice president of the Global IP Network, NTT America, offered his perspective on the changing requirements of the Latin American end-user in the content space, specifically key services and applications driving demand and demand for interactive content, as part of the panel, “Strategies to Capitalize on the Growth of Rich-Media Content: Capacity Planning and Service Delivery,” at Capacity Latin America 2010. In addition, Shuichi Ikeda, vice president of sales and business development, Global IP Network, NTT America, joined analysts and executives on the panel, “The Internet Boom: Delivering Broadband Across Latin America.”
· As part of NTT America’s ongoing commitment to create awareness for and adoption of IPv6, the company spoke on the topic of “IPv6 Commercial Applications” during the IPv6 Session workshop at the 29th Annual APAN (Asia-Pacific Advanced Network) Meeting. In addition, NTT America joined IPv6 subject matter experts and leaders from around the world at PTC’10, the 32nd annual Pacific Telecommunications Council (PTC) conference, offering the company’s perspective on the benefits of IPv6 as part of the roundtable, “IPv6--The Next Big Bail Out: Will IPv6 Save the Internet?”
· Doug Junkins, CTO of NTT America and vice president of IP development for the Global IP Network Business Unit, addressed opportunities for broadcasters seeking optimal network architecture for content distribution and delivery worldwide as part of the panel, “Content Delivery, Rich Media, IPTV and Internet TV Connectivity-Enabling the Connected Broadband and TV Universe” at the Digital Hollywood conference at the 2010 International CES.
Also of note, NTT America and NTT America Global IP Network Solution Partner, Silent Partner, a firm that provides Internet connectivity and colocation services, published a case study, “Breaking the Silence: Silent Partner and NTT America.” The case study emphasized the unique benefits of channel neutral partnerships.
