NTT Communications to Provide Insight and Leadership at Capacity Latam 2014
New York, NY and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - March 18, 2014 – NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the global data and IP services arm of Fortune Global 500 telecom leader NTT (NYSE: NTT), today announced its participation as Platinum Sponsor at the Capacity Latam Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At a time when Brazil is anticipating an unprecedented bandwidth demand as the host of two of the most popular sporting events in the world and Latin America is making a concerted effort to lower costs and expand access, NTT Com is proud to provide insight and leadership on the key issues shaping the wholesale IP transit industry in the region.
This conference, one of the largest of its kind for the Latin American wholesale telecommunications sector, is expected to draw more than 400 industry leaders from 150 service providers and carriers. Conference sessions are scheduled for March 18-19. This year marks the eleventh anniversary of the Capacity Latam Conference.
On Tuesday March 18, Michael Wheeler, executive vice president of NTT Com’s Global IP Network (GIN) business unit at NTT America, will speak as part of the keynote panel “Addressing Changing Market Dynamics and Developing Competitive Strategies in Latin American Wholesale” about the challenges and opportunities global carriers are facing in the region.
“With all of the evolving market dynamics in Latin America and the number of devices and customers connected to IP networks growing exponentially, it is imperative that service providers develop sustainable commercial solutions and innovative strategies if they want to succeed,” said Mr. Wheeler. “Having an established high-capacity infrastructure, more than sufficient capital resources and industry expertise are crucial to meet the growing demand for Internet services,” Mr. Wheeler added.
Mr. Wheeler’s comments reflect NTT Com’s strategy in the region. Since rolling out a Point-of-Presence (PoP) in Sao Paulo in 2011, NTT Com has worked with Internet service providers, multinational enterprises and Internet-centric businesses to connect them to international markets through its top-ranked Tier-1 Global IP Network.
As Brazil prepares for the FIFA World Cup in a few months and the Summer Olympic Games in 2016, global service providers are essential in helping to meet Internet data needs. These events will generate large volumes of video content originating in Brazil and streamed out around the world. Carriers will need to find the right balance between having adequate infrastructure to serve their customers while not overbuilding capacity that will go unused after the events.
In the meantime, Mr. Wheeler said that NTT Com will continue to evaluate possible expansions in Latin America over the next few years, investing in infrastructure and building long-term relationships with its customers.
