NTT America Expands Global Network with NYC Connect

NEW YORK – NTT America, a wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation, today announced that it has expanded its network footprint in New York City to now include the NYC Connect facility at 111 Eighth Avenue. Through this expansion, NTT Communications Global IP Network adds to its exponentially growing network by increasing its IP connectivity to Europe and Canada.

The agreement with NYC Connect will expand the reach and increase the strength of NTT Communications’ global Tier 1 IP backbone. It will also allow existing and potential local customers to access the Internet at connection speeds up to 10 gigabit per second Ethernet (10GigE). NYC Connect allows enterprises to connect to numerous service providers, such as NTT America, and ensure enhanced flexibility, efficiency and interconnection.

“NYC Connect’s customers now have access to an alternative global carrier for their IP networking needs, which will allow them to connect to the strongest Asia-Pacific network available today,” said Tesuro Yamaguchi, CEO of NTT America. “Ultimately, this agreement solidifies NTT America’s position as a global leader offering Tier 1 IP backbone support and IPv6 technologies by expanding the footprint of our network.”

“OpenDNS’ high-performance network requires us to purchase bandwidth in multiple locations in order to accommodate the stratospheric growth in DNS requests we're servicing,” said David Ulevitch, CEO of OpenDNS. “We turned to NTT America for bandwidth at NYC Connect, and other locations, because we want direct access to their global Tier 1 Internet backbone and the support of their financially-backed SLAs.”

NYC Connect created the first official Meet-Me-Room at 111 Eighth Avenue in New York City in December 2002. The facility is 100 percent neutral and allows users to have immediate access to an abundance of global networks.
