NTT Communications Invests in Enterprise Clients’ Success

Maintains Positive Momentum toward Leadership Position as Global Total ICT Partner

New York, NY – October 17, 2012 – NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) today announced the company is on track to become a leading ICT partner, supporting multinational corporations’ needs for integration, outsourcing and optimization.  This momentum is evidenced by the company’s rapid progress expanding its global footprint, enhancing its networks with cutting edge virtualization and automation technologies, and launching new cloud services during the third quarter.  NTT Com’s superior ability to support multinationals that have global requirements is underscored by the company’s continued investment in its core ICT infrastructure, global marine cabling, applications and cloud services.  Over the last three months, the company has made significant investments in network expansion and enhancements, as well as in new products and services, delivering tangible benefits directly to its customers.

“Large customers looking for a reliable service provider with the global scale and assets to handle grand capacity and connectivity projects worldwide should certainly evaluate NTT Com’s proposals, because the company is proven in this space and has the operational scale and network reach to deliver,” said Joel Stradling, Research Director, Business Network and IT Services, Current Analysis.  “Financial backing is also in place, with NTT Group representing one of the largest (in terms of revenue) carrier groups in the world with over USD 130 billion annual revenues in FY ended March 31, 2011.”  NTT Group invests upwards of $3.5 billion in R&D annually, demonstrating an unabated commitment to innovation that garnered the company the Thomson Reuters distinction as a “Top 100 Global Innovator.”

Development of Network Infrastructure for Future Client Services

Continuing to augment network capacity, coverage and diversity, in August NTT Com launched the Asia Submarine-cable Express (ASE), a 40-gigabit-per-second (Gbps) wavelength technology, ultra-low latency undersea cable connecting major cities in Asia.  This robust cable, designed to bypass areas prone to damage by earthquakes and typhoons, boasts landing points near data centers in the East Asian hubs of Japan, the Philippines, Singapore - including the Serangoon Data Center - and Malaysia, with an eagerly anticipated addition of Hong Kong expected in the first quarter of 2013.  This significant network investment enhances NTT Com’s highly reliable global network services by boosting the capacity and strengthening the redundancy of its Asian cable networks.  ASE solidifies NTT Com’s place among the top ten marine cable owners and operators globally, and among the top three in Asia.  Additionally, NTT Com has incorporated ASE into the backbone of its IPv6 ready, tier 1, global IP network – one of the three largest IP backbones in the world.  The extensive global infrastructure NTT Com owns and operates covers over 159 countries across APAC, the Americas and Europe.  NTT Com’s PC-1 cable system is particularly attractive to multinationals that require APAC service; PC-1 is the world’s most reliable, transpacific, sub-sea network providing a vital link between the United States and Asia.

“Japan is Evernote’s second largest market, so it was imperative for us to partner with a network provider that offered seamless service to the Asia Pacific region.  No one provides better access to that market than the NTT Communications Global IP Network,” said Dave Engberg, CTO of Evernote.  “Our customers expect the highest quality of service possible, and NTT America’s direct routes to the markets that are the most critical to our business enable us to deliver just that.”

In July, NTT Com’s wholly owned U.S. subsidiary, NTT America, introduced IntelOps, a noteworthy enhancement to the company’s portfolio of managed services, delivering automated remote monitoring of NTT America’s Managed Private Networks as well as third-party networks and communications devices.  NTT America’s IntelOps Managed Service follows ITIL® best practices, creates business value, delivers faster network response, reduces total cost of ownership (TCO), and increases visibility with a new portal for enterprise clients.

Cloud Service Enhancement and Big Data Platforms and Solutions

Leading the way in enterprise cloud services, on June 29, NTT Com enhanced its portfolio yet again, launching the world’s first globally seamless enterprise cloud service to incorporate OpenFlow network virtualization technology for networks built within and between data centers.  The cutting-edge service is initially provided via NTT Com data centers in Japan and Hong Kong, followed by data centers in the United States (two locations), the United Kingdom and Singapore in December and in Australia, Malaysia and Thailand in March 2013.

NTT Com’s new infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offering, Enterprise Cloud, provides global cloud resources that enterprise customers can easily control and manage to optimize their ICT costs and support the global expansion of corporate operations.  Many multinational enterprises with growing global operations are struggling with long lead times to expand and modify their ICT systems, which can delay their response to rapid changes in the market.  NTT Com helps enterprises overcome this problem by providing flexible cloud services via system changes that can be performed automatically using virtualized servers and networks, and a convenient customer portal.  A recent study, The Global Market Pulse: Cloud Computing Infrastructure Study, commissioned by NTT Communications and conducted by IDG Research Services, found that enterprises see key benefits in deploying cloud services with a virtualized network.  The research findings, presented at the 2012 CIO Symposium & Awards Ceremony in August, support NTT Com’s assertion that there is huge potential for businesses to realize simplified network management as the real benefit of cloud services that include a virtualized network service.

Maintaining a strong focus on business continuity / disaster recovery investments, NTT America extended its Recovery as a Service (RaaS) portfolio in August with the addition of Cloud Recovery, an enterprise-grade, cloud-based replication solution that meets the strict requirements of enterprises seeking to ensure business continuity for their mission-critical applications in the event of planned or unplanned outages.  Cloud Recovery provides seamless business continuity, with the industry-unique ability to return end users to their production systems with a single click, ensuring continued operations for end clients.  NTT America’s Cloud Recovery advances the NTT Communications Cloud Vision, which calls for global and seamless cloud resources that enterprise customers can easily control and manage in order to utilize their ICT assets strategically and expand their business globally.
